Dear Friends,
It’s hard to believe that only two weeks have passed since the last time I checked in with you. Changes and information have been flowing at warp speed, yet time seems to move so slowly.
I want you to know that we see you. We’re right here with you as you process the myriad of information swirling around and you wonder how and if you’ll operate. We feel the tension between your deep desire to give children the camp experiences they so desperately need and the overwhelming challenge of preparing in an environment still rife with uncertainty — not to mention the concerns we all have for our businesses.
What we’re facing right now, for most of us, is the professional challenge of our lives. Over the past two weeks, our team has already spoken in-depth with almost 300 camps. We are so inspired by your strength, resilience, and creativity in the face of adversity. The great majority of our clients are in “wait-and-see” mode and hoping to offer as much camp as possible this season.
If we sift through the noise, we can see some glimmers of hope: The CDC is currently drafting guidance for both day and resident camps, and the ACA’s panel of experts is prepared to help operationalize the guidelines. There even appears to be a growing sense that, perhaps, camps may be able to help provide many of the answers we all seek — both as partners in public health (by creating safe environments) and economic recovery (by helping parents go back to work). I am heartened by the CDC’s advice that camp professionals not make major decisions until the CDC issues their guidance.
As we proceed toward summer, please know that CampMinder is still moving full-speed ahead to support you. Based on our many conversations, we’ve been hard at work building solutions to help ease the administrative burden of implementing the changes you may be considering, such as adjusting session dates, lengths, and rates. We’re also thinking ahead to the fall and considering ways we may be able to help you hit the ground running in an offseason that will surely be unlike any other.
Please, if you feel there’s any way we might be able to assist you, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re still right here.
With love and admiration,
Dan Konigsberg
